| Maintenance Update for August 20th - The Mac Chaotic Pad is live! (plus bug fixes and other updates)
Hello there Chaotic Beta Community! We are pleased to announce that the Macintosh® version of the Chaotic® Pad is now live and ready to download and play!
Once logged into the Website, simply click on the green 'Activate' button located on the upper right of your screen. Once you do this, click on the 'Mac Install' button. From here, simply download the Mac Installer (your desktop is the recommended place for this). Once the Installer is finished downloading, open it and follow the directions there to install the Pad. After it has installed, open the Pad. After it finishes patching, launch it, log in, and you'll be ready to play! All three versions of the Chaotic Pad - XNA, OpenGL, and Mac - can be played against any of the available versions. So, a Mac user can play against an OpenGL or XNA user, and so on.
The Arbiter I mentioned in yesterday's post is also live now as well.
Here's the list of bugs the development team has fixed in this latest maintenance update. Keep in mind that this list is not completely 100% so if we have a bug that is listed here as fixed and it really is open, feel free to let us know. The pinned list of Known Bugs will be updated over the next few days as well once we verify that those bugs have been fixed in the public servers and if we happen to find more bugs in the game. So without further ado, this is the list of known fixed bugs as of the 8/20/2008 release of the Chaotic pad (XNA/OpenGL/Mac):
- Song of Shelter will no longer crash the game if it was used to block an ability on the same stack.
- Users can now select "Pass" if using the Defender ability in an Apprentice Rules game.
- Warbeasts no longer retain the Elements gained from fighting in Carnival of Confusion.
- When Strain of Ash is trying to be used by someone with Heptadd's Crown or by Heptadd himself, the Mugic will only activate if the user has an UnderWorld Creature in their army.
- Song of Desperation now negates attack damage coming from Stat Challenges or Stat Checks.
- Stack handling has been tweaked. Previously, this bug allowed cases where a Creature that should have died in the stack is allowed to live instead.
- Heptadd's Crown is now a Unique Battlegear. This was done to match up with the printed card which states that this was a Unique Battlegear. The change is not visible in the Collection or Army card artwork yet but it will be seen if the user tries to place two copies of Heptadd's Crown in the same army.
- The Double KO bug is now fixed thanks to the previous stack handling fix. There is now a definitive winner whenever it gets to the situation where the final attack of the game destroys both Creatures.
- Garv cannot be added twice to an army.
- The OpenGL version and the Mac version of the pad is now represented by the Chaotic Icon.
- The OpenGL version and the Mac version of the pad no longer have the Full Screen button on the lower right corner. This prevents the Full Screen crash from ever occuring. Full Screen is still active on the XNA version.
- The OpenGL version had a bug where it would not be able to connect properly to another game if it had timed out from a previous game. This has now been fixed.
With the new Macintosh version of the Chaotic pad comes a list of system requirements needed in order to run the game. For now, the game only runs on Intel based Macs. We are aware of the issues concerning PowerPC based Macs and are working to make the pad compatible with that as well. Here are the Macintosh System Requirements:
Macintosh® System Requirements
Macintosh® OS X 10.3
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
512 MB or more RAM
NVIDIA® or ATI® accelerated 3D video card with at least 64MB of VRAM
250MB available hard drive space
Broadband Internet connection or better
1024 x 768 Resolution
Keep in mind these may not be the absolute minimum system specs for the Mac version. If you have a Mac that has system specs lower than the ones listed here, feel free to try out the Chaotic Pad and see if it works. If it does, please let us know what your system specs were so that we can update this accordingly. Also, if any of you find any new bugs, please be sure to report them in the Bug Report forum (using the provided template!) or by sending in a Helpdesk ticket.
REMINDER: You MUST run the Chaotic Patcher after every Maintenance Update before using the game pad again!
- The best way to do this is to either click on the “Chaotic” icon on your desktop or open the TC Digital folder from the Start menu.
- Run “Chaotic” (not the “Chaotic Pad”) from there.
- The Patcher will start updating.
- Once it is finished patching, you can start the game again!
If you've never been able to play Chaotic online before, please read our Getting Started post to help you out.
Our development and QA team stayed up into the morning hours, pulling a very long shift to get these updates live. Please join me in congratulating them on a job well done. We'd also like to thank our Mac users for being so patient as the major bugs in the Mac version were worked out before release. We hope you enjoy these latest updates, and look forward to battling you all online!
